It would mean thousands more people working at GM's Lansing Grand River and Lansing Delta Township plants. It would mean even more people working at the car part suppliers that send components to GM. And it could mean millions more dollars pumped into local stores, restaurants and businesses. In short, it would be an economic jump-start for mid-Michigan, which suffered under an unemployment rate of 9.6 percent in April, the last month for which statistics were available.
