Stormtrooper1
95 Cadillac STS, 199600 miles. After the last oil change, the battery will be stone cold dead if the car is left for a full day. Also It's been popping the fuse for the left rear tail light, (which also kills the illumination for the dash gauges)\ Even with this fuse removed, and the battery fully charged, it's dead the next day. nothing left on in the car. What is the best place to start looking for this drain? Thanks for the help! 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 1976 Cadillac Coupe Deville
kev2
basics first.. Is the CEL (ck eng Lt) on? How old is the battery? 36month avg life Any added elect accesories, they are always the first suspect, audio, lighting, remote or alarms. Then if nothing above applies, using a DVOM or if not available using a test light....remove neg battery cable and complete circuit with either tool, if there is a draw a DVOM reading or the test light will illuminate... remove the fuses one by one hopefully the indicator will go off as you isolate the circuit. Also removing the wiring at alternator would isolate that as a problem.

Battery and ALt are about 2 months old No new accesories. everything stock. Thanks for the help I'll have to try that to track it down. 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 1976 Cadillac Coupe Deville

Stormtrooper1
confirm that the code is p0039?? It's a 95, so the codes only 3 numbers, and from the cadillacforums code list it's P039 (E039) ..... Torque Coverter Clutch/Viscous Converter Clutch Engagement Problem Which sounds about right for the occasional hard shift i get from it. 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 1976 Cadillac Coupe Deville

Texas Jim
I noticed that you said...."AFTER THE LAST OIL CHANGE"....the battery started to go dead. There may be a connection there. (pun intended) I would be tracing the wire from the tail light, to see if it runs ANYWHERE NEAR where someone may have damaged it when changing the oil. You may have a short to ground somewhere in that circuit. That would also explain the fuse blowing. Check the taillight HOUSING and the socket that holds the bulb for corrosion and possible shorts.
