pitbull25 Posted December 17, 2007 Report Share Posted December 17, 2007 i just bought a 07 cts sport and the dealership says they dont know what the noise is. it is a manual tranny and im pretty sure that the noise is comming from the gear shifter area. the best way i can describe it is that it sounds like a scraping fan. and it only does it when im maintaining my speed, it goes away when accelerating or decelerating. someone mentioned maybe something to do with the drive shaft. i dont know. someone please help me. marty Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bruce Nunnally Posted December 17, 2007 Report Share Posted December 17, 2007 Have you had a look under the CTS to see if there is anything rubbing or touching on the drive shaft? There is a metal strap (actually a flattish piece of metal) that runs across the bottom of the CTS across the driveshaft. I would especially check that this was not rattling. Here is a pic: Although on my 2005 model it has a bolt on one end and a tab on the other end that fits into the underside of the car, not two bolts as shown. Also, if the exhaust hangers are not hanging properly the exhaust will 'droop' and hit this causing a rattle or buzz.
