Refer to Thermostat Housing Replacement . Thermostat Housing Replacement LA3, LY9 Removal Procedure Remove the coolant outlet pipe. Refer to Coolant Pipe Replacement - Outlet . Coolant Pipe Replacement - Outlet Tools Required J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers Removal Procedure Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System . Position the J 38185 to the clamp in order to remove the radiator inlet hose (1) from the coolant outlet pipe. Remove the bolt (2) securing the following to the cylinder head: The oil level indicator tube (4) The coolant outlet pipe (3) The engine front lift bracket (1) Remove the coolant outlet pipe (3) from the thermostat housing. Remove the O-ring seals from the coolant outlet pipe. Discard the O-rings. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical-2.6L and 3.2L. Remove the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement . Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure in Engine Controls-2.6L and 3.2L. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Metal Collar) in order to disconnect the following quick connect fittings from the fuel rail: The return hose/pipe (1) The feed hose/pipe (2) Plug the open outlet ports to prevent fuel loss and contamination. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical harness connector (2) from the engine wiring harness connector (3). Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vent tube from the fuel pressure regulator. Remove the fuel rail if intake manifold replacement is necessary. Refer to Fuel Injectors and Fuel Rail Replacement in Engine Controls-2.6L and 3.2L. Remove the intake manifold bolts (1). Remove the intake manifold (2) from the intake manifold flange. Remove the seals (3). Mask off the open ports to the intake manifold flange, in order to prevent foreign objects from entering the engine. If necessary, disassemble the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Disassemble . Clean and inspect the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Cleaning and Inspection . Remove the thermostat housing bolts (1). Remove the thermostat housing (2) with thermostat, from the engine. Remove and discard the seal ring. Remove the thermostat from the thermostat housing. Refer to Thermostat Replacement Complete the following in order to remove the thermostat from the thermostat housing: Depress the ears on both sides of the thermostat. Rotate the thermostat until it clears the retaining feature of the housing. Release the pressure from the thermostat. Pull the thermostat from the thermostat housing.
