MetalGod
About a year or so ago, the pull down motor went and I had it replaced. Maybe a few weeks ago, it went again. I was surprised to see this happen so soon like it did. I tried to look around and see if there was a lot of moisture or debris possibly causing it, but there is no moisture and it's clean. At this point, I'm holding down the lid with a few bungee cords. I didn't replace the lid myself last time and I have every intention of doing so this time. I just wanted to get a little insight on exactly what the process is for doing this as I've never really done anything with any electronical components in this car. Thank you. If I recall correctly it took me 10 minutes including clean up. I went to a wrecker and picked one up off a deville. $40. Pull out some of the trunk material surrounding it and unclip, unsrew old one, screw and reclip electrical harness on new one. Tuck the trunk material back and you're good to go. I did it over a year ago and I think this is what i did or very close to it. KHE
Check the upper latch switch and associated wiring - especially where is is routed along the trunk hinge. The wires sometimes break after repeated flexing. Motor failures are relatively rare and for two to happen on the same car is a rarer case. MetalGod
Rather than just going out to buy a motor, I decided to check the wiring first. It appears there is 1 wire that's loose. The wire runs directly into the harness or plug or whatever. If I apply pressure to the wire, the latch functions properly. If I let go of the wire, the latch will come up on its own, but will not go down.
KHE
The wire can be repaired by sodering it back together and using heat-shrink tape to insulate the joint. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
