When to remove Snow Tires...

Living here in North Eastern New Jersey, and watching snow fall as we "speak", when do you guys think I should finally remove my Dunlop Graspic snow tires?

The Michelin tires are horrible to begin with and even worse when there's even just a dusting of snow (car slides all over the road even with 1/16" of snow or less) so I'm trying to avoid getting stuck with the Michelin tires on the car if it snows.

By the way, the Dunlops performed flawlessly. Awesome winter tires.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

I didn't know Michelin made racing slicks... ;)

What kind of Michelin tires do you have that do so poorly? Even my performance Pilots track through several inches of snow with ease.

Michelin WX4

225 60/16

They came with the car and they stink in the rain and the snow.

Ya, the XW4s are standard equipment on the older Sevilles and are Michelin's lowest rated tires (kind of like a Goodyear Invicta or something). If you ever upgrade them, consider a Pilot or Hydroedge model, or even the new Michelin Harmony. The Harmony has been getting great reviews on Tirerack, and it's only about 78 bucks ea. at Sams or Walmart.

I believe you when you say they are the lowest rated tires. I always used Kelly Springfield on my Celebrity and that car stuck to the road like glue, so how surprised was I when driving down the road, in the rain, in my Caddy and I find it's rolling and waving all over the place. Shocked and scared.

I'll probably use the Michelins for just this summer, go back to the Dunlop Graspic during the next winter and then buy new tires for next year. I just have to be extra careful with the Michelins in the rain. I was looking at Dunlop for summer tires as well, but I'll check out the Michelins that you mentioned too.

I think I'll tie my old ballet slippers to the front of the Caddy, this way it will be able to handle the roadway "banana waltz" better. ;)

move here to so. cal, it was 90 here today :D

Sorry, but my pulmonary specialist says that dry air is not good for me and personally, I'm not fond of hot weather. Anything over 75F and I'm feeling very uncomfortable.

Now San Diego would be a nice place, but it's a bit too pricy for me.

You can take off your snow tires NEXT week. Well that's my prediction.

We got a pretty good dumping of snow last night here in Southeast PA.

FWIW, I had the Z-rated Michelin Pilots and found them to be not so great in the snow either.

I think the weather people say we're in for one more as we're supposed to have snow tomorrow morning, Friday morning, and snow throughout the day on Saturday.

Augh!! :(

Back in the day, late 60s. during college, pre- Nam, I was a gas station night grommet with the title of "night mechanic". Bwahhhhhhaaaa! Anyway, rule of thumb was 4/1 for the snows off.

FWIW
