Power Sells

Vehicles associated with power and performance appeal to customers more than models not associated with power and performance. In 2001, 24% of new vehicles (including cars and light trucks) were sold with a V-8 engine, but in 2003, the rate had risen to 25%. While V-8s are becoming less and less popular among car buyers (9% in 2001 vs. 8% in 2003), they are gaining favor among light-truck buyers (37% in 2001 vs. 39% in 2003).

Performance-oriented models move off dealer lots faster than traditional, non-performance models. Consumers also create more of a positive bond with power-oriented models than with traditional models.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.
