David Schlichting
First of all, Happy New Year to all in Forum-land. Just got back from the big visit to the relatives driving from Long Island to Denver and back coving 4300 miles and averaging 25.4mpg on my 2000 SLS mostly cruising at 70. A few times on this trip, there has been a intermittent series of beeps seemingly coming from one of the speakers in the left front of the dashboard. This is not the "chime" one hears when an error comes up on the DIC or from the fasten steat belt warning, but a haphazard series of beeps that lasts for a few mintues and then goes away. OnStar lights glow green during this time, so I assume there is no loss of signal there. Have switched Twilight Sentinel on/off, same for cruise control, climate control with no effect. Car runs fine, fluid levels normal, nothing on the DIC, but I don't know how to look for the codes in the OBD on this model. Any ideas what this might be??? JimD
Here is how to read the codes: ******************************** 1998 - 2004 Seville ; On Board Diagnostics Display Use the 3 switches located to the right (LH drive cars) of the Driver Information Center (DIC) to activate and respond to the OBD prompts on the DIC. ON/OFF = YES INFO RESET = NO INFO DOWN or INFO UP = manual toggle Ignition ON, acknowledge any warning messages; press ON/OFF and INFO UP together for 2 to 3 seconds. Everything in front of you lights up for 4 or 5 seconds, then you will see: Display shows "ALL?" Answering YES will display "ALL CODES?" Answering YES will run automatic test sequence and display codes, if any. Systems and codes will scroll faster than I am able to read them and write them; not to worry. "ALL CLEAR CODES?" will display at the end of the automatic test. If you are satisfied you have the information you need, answer YES to clear/erase all error codes. Answering "ALL?" with INFO DOWN will toggle systems test manually in order. Answering "ALL?" with INFO UP will toggle system test manually in reverse order. Press INFO RESET to reset DIC to "ALL?" to start again. Ignition OFF to exit. SYSTEMS: (as of 1998) ABS (Antilock Brake System) AMP (Amplifier) DDM (Door Driver Module) DIM (Dash Integration Module) IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) IPM (Instrument Panel Module) IRC (Integrated Radio Module) PCM (Powertrain Control Module) RFA (Remote Function Actuation) RIM (Rear Integration Module) SDM (Sensing and Diagnostic Module) Includes airbag crash data. chazglenn3
You wouldn't happen to have a GSM-based cell phone would you? When I carry mine in the car and the phone is on, occasionally I get a series of tones through the speakers. Does it sitting by the computer also. Just a thought. David Schlichting
Whoa, this is spooky . . . I had just such a GSM phone sitting in the ash tray. I thought it was the phone itself beeping, so shut it off and the beeping continued. I usually have it in my briefcase when driving around here, but had it in the cabin usually turned on when on our trip. Who'd have thought this?? Thanks for the diagnosis.
