New Plugs

Cupillac

Recommended Posts

Well my Cadillac STS is in winter storage right now, but I'm already making a list of things to do when it makes it's first appearance this year. I've owned the car for 2 years now and just wondering if I should put some new spark plugs in it? And what kind do you suggest? Prices off the top of your heads would be appreciated.

Thanks

You really don't need to change the plugs, unless it's running badly, or they have WELL over 100,000 miles on them. Given that, the only plug to use is OEM AC Delco dual platinum. Anything else is just asking for trouble. Over the years here, I've seen people have to go back to them...Price is no object for a Northstar's spark plugs.. ;) But shop around...

I replaced my original AC platinum with NGK platinum plugs and they have been working great for the past few years.

Note, the original AC plugs died a very early death. About 50K Mi.

The ground electrodes were badly worn away.

It appears the "General" forgot to add the platinum to the ground electrodes.

When I forgive the "General" for this oversight, I might try a new set of AC's.

From '96 on, the AC Delco DUAL platinum plugs were constructed with an improved process, greatly improving the life of the plug, and the adhesion of the TWO pads... ;)

Since all eight plugs were missing the platinum pads, it would seem that they were never applied.

Like you said Bob, maybe they had a really poor adhesion process.
