coolnesss
My 98 ETC has a whistling power steering pump. When the pump is under load, as at sudden steering wheel manipulations or at end of throw, I hear a whistling-like noise that sounds like the fluid rushing through the hoses . . . any ideas gents? Ranger
Check the fluid level.
coolnesss
It ain't the fluid level - which, when its low, the pump squeals. The fluid is up, the rack & pinion unit is new. It is a much more subtle noise, like a faint whistling. Just exactly loud enough to be annoying if you've been driving the car for awhile - a passenger might not even notice it. bigfoo
mine does it too.. sounds like an old supercharger or something.. it's weird. I haven't had time to track it down yet and it's not causing any problems so far
epricedright
I have the same noise. I believe it's the power steering pump. I listened to it with a piece of 3/8 air hose and that's where the noise is coming from. Mine too sounds like a mini-blower/supercharger, especially when it's cold. I have a new one that I plan to install soon. Hope that does the trick.
