I fixed my ash tray door in 97 STS

While I had the dash apart this weekend I took the time to look at the broken ash tray door. Every thing seemed to be there but SOMETHING was broken. On the right hand side of the housing I noticed a little cam machanism, but there was nothing to go into it. I popped off the door from the housing and noticed that there was a pin broken off from the door. I took a small drill and drilled through the plastic where the pin used to be so I could push a small flat head nail through the hole. I clipped off the nail so that about 3/16" was showing after being pushed through the plastic. After a little fine tuning with a file (I think I had about 1/8" left showing) it worked as good as new.

Clever and resourceful. A perfect combination. Your significant other must adore you. :)

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.
