Michelle
Could some one please help me? My alternator died late one afternoon while I was in rush hour traffic! She has been sitting for about a month now. I have a new battery and ac delco alternator ready to go. I just need to know how to loosen the belt as I can't find the tensioner I think a visual aid would be good if some one has one. Thanks, Michelle

Michelle
Try this http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairGui...900c15280090310 Thanks, but I dont think that'll will do it. I do have the Haynes manual but even that is not enough info for me. I need to know how to loosen the the belt so I can get the alternator out. This is all I found. Release the tension from the drive belt land remove the belt from the generator pulley. Do not remove the belt from any other component pulleys. I know this, but I cant find the tensioner! lol.. Ranger
The tensioner is a spring loaded pulley. Look on the back side of it and you'll see a 1/2" square hole. Put the drive lug from a 1/2" drive breaker bar in the hole and use the breaker bar as a lever to release belt tension.
