Darn, if they'd let me buy more than five half point diamonds I could retire... Jeeze - a point is 1/10th of a carat - so we're talking 1/20th of a carat for $20. That's $400 a carat. Still cheap. Must be not more than shiny grains of sand... Plus 10 bucks for shipping or so? Quite a racket going on there, eh? Trivia Buffs: The "carat" as a measure of gemological weight evolved from the use of carob beans as weights - carob beans are remarkably similar in their weight, you could collect a 100 pounds of them and the difference between the heaviest and lightest would be no more than about .0001% "I'll take Arcane and Meaningless Knowledge for $100, Alex..." Isn't there also a name for 1/10th of a carat? With round brilliant cut diamonds, 1/10 carat (weight in fractions) = .10 carats = 10 points (weight pts (diameter)) = .02 grams (weight in grams) = 20 milligrams (weight in grams) = 3.00mm (size-diameter) I think a diamond smaller than 10 points is called a "measly". Right yes, I am aware of that but I was wondering if there's an industry slang type word for 1/10th carat MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. Work for a Capitalist or be one.
