Water Injection

I’m thinking about buying a water injection system and I’m curious if there are any opinions and recommendations, particularly concerning the Northstar engine.

I installed the Aquatune Water Injection system ( http://www.aquatune.com ) on a 1998 STS I used to have. It cost about $350. It was very interesting but I really wouldn't recommend buying one.

Here are some of their claims:

*More horse power and a higher torque range!

*From 25% and up increase in fuel economy!

*Up to 30% increase in horse power!

*Gets rid of harmful carbon deposits!

*Pass previously failed DEQ checkouts!

First of all, the horsepower claim....I noticed absolutely 0 power gain. I have heard that water injection does add power on turbo and supercharged engines because of a cooling effect but not on normally aspirated engines.

As far as the increase in fuel economy....yes, it helped there. Believe it or not, I observed gas mileage of ~32 MPG at about 68 MPH....in an STS no less.

It really will remove carbon deposits.

The real pain about the system is that you really have to run 50% water and 50% isopropyl alcohol. I ran it with pure water and the engine kept stalling and plumes of steam were coming from the exhaust. It ran great with the 50/50 mix though. Also, the bottle that the system comes with to fill with water holds about 2 quarts of water. They claim that it holds enough water to drive about 200-250 miles. Well, in my experience, it ran dry after about 75-100 miles.

Their 30 day money back guarantee is good. I returned the system and they refunded my money.

I have it on my Syclone, its just like a nitros shot. Front end lifts and the accel force pushes you in the seat that much further. Shot comes on a 10lbs of boost lowered my intake temp drastically. I love it!!!!! :D I run a 50/50 mix alcohol and water.
