Seville rear knuckle defective

Hello everybody,

recently I found that my Seville's left rear upper knuckle bushing is shot.

I read in the archives that this problem is not so uncommon, and that the bushings are not available separateley at the GM dealer.

Does anybody know if these bushings or a substitute are available elsewhere?

I've already taken apart the left rear suspension to investigate the failure and to check the bushing construction and dimensions. These bushings seem to be of a rather unique design. I thought I might built a replacement but this seems difficult due to load conditions on the bushing.

Ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance

Stefan

Stefan, unfortunately, the rear knuckle is replaced as a complete assembly (how STUPID is that?). Regis and I were discussing developing a bushing replacement at one time. You are right, we don't hear it a lot, so as a result of a lack of demand, no one has developed a bushing replacement repair. Its also possible that the bushings are NOT pressed in and they are injection molded. That said, the it is replaced as a complete assembly.

If you would like, I can check my local scrap yard for you for a good one, which side?, Mike

Mike,

thanks a lot for your reply. It seems that the bushing is pressed in, and could therefore be pressed out and replaced, if you had one...

I thought I might produce an inner and an outer ring on a lathe and fill it with polyurethan (I've got a can already) but the inner ring has to be able to move in the bushing. This is the case in the original bushing, it is lubed with grease and sealed by silicone caps.

Thanks also for your kind offer to look at your local scrap yard, but I'd rather replace it with a new one. A used one will be at least ten years old and I doubt it's in much better condition.

Do you know what a new one costs over here? I asked at my local GM service...EUR 830 + 16% VAT...that's a whopping 1,250 US$ for ONE knuckle! Jeeze, I guess I should open a GM dealership!

Best

Stefan

Stefan, re-read my post above, I edited it. At $280, the VAT won't be too bad, if you must pay it, Thanks, Mike
