poopdeville
Each time I start my old girl, she snorts, rumbles and growls. Once it reaches operating temp it is much quieter. The pipe joint between the exhaust pipe and the cat (in front of the cat) is not clamped. This is where the leak is apparently coming from. Should it have a clamp? Is the partial quieting due to metal expansion thus partial sealing after warm-up? Stupid question I guess but... Thanks, Mike P
jhall
Mike, Take a close look to see if the joint is welded. If so, it may be failing from corrosion and a clamp may crush the pipe before it stops the leak. If there is a gap between the pipes (indicating a slip-fit joint) and corrosion does not appear to be evident, it may be possible to pull the joint closed with a clamp.
