Key Battery Causing Problem?

Recommended Posts

I tried to start my car but it would not start. The dashboard would chime, but I do not hear any noise from the engine. I tried to take my key out of the ignition, but it will not come out no matter what I did. I noticed that the anti-theft alert came up on the dashboard. I got my car towed to my mechanic. When my mechanic tried to take the key out of the ignition, he was able to. He was also able to start up my car. My mechanic was very puzzled about this and went through my car but could not find anything wrong with it.

I talked to my friend and he thought that maybe the battery in my car remote was dying. As a result, the car was unable to verify that they key I placed in the ignition is the proper key and triggered the anti theft system. His solution is to replace the battery in the key.

I am wondering if there is a proper battery that I should purchase for the remote, and if this is indeed related to my problem. I have a 2004 Cadillac CTS.
