jinxed45
Hello, Purchased a 1997 Cadillac Eldorado ETC w/ 100k miles on it. RANDOMLY, I will hear a loud violent rumbling noise, and today I got a high pitched noise, coming from this thing under the cup holder. I was told it may be the GEARBOX? Please help me if you know what this is, and why it would possibly be making rumbling noises. Thanks! -Leo
rjhat
Does yor car have rear air? My 97 has an electric fan in that area for the rear air. I have a similar sound that seems to be the fan bearings or something has fallen into the area of the fan. Hope this helps. If you have rear air, try turning it off the next time you hear the noise to see if it stops.
rjhat
one other thought... If I am correct, this couldn't possibly be the gearbox. I think the 97 eldorado was front wheel drive. If thats true, the gearbox (transmission) is located further foward, this area could only be the tranny in a rear wheel drive!

jinxed45
You are ALL right, it was the rear blower. I turned it off, and the noise stopped cold. But how would I go about FIXING it? Must be something stuck in there.
