rfizer
Hello, My service engine light came on and I took it in to get info on what it was. They said it was the Torque Converter Lockup Solenoid had to be replaced and quoted me 1451.00. Question one is this realistic? And question two Does it harm your car to drive with a bad converter lockup solenoid, and question three is Is this something i could do If i'm a person who has occasional experience in moderate mechanic work like changing an occasional head gasket or swapped transmissions in older cars? Many thanks for any info you can provide. Rob robfizerii@yahoo.com
JimD
Your vehicle will display the DTCs for you; here is how http://www.caddyinfo.com/readingcodes.html You could live with the problem but will suffer a 1 to 2 MPG hit as a result. If you are in a mandatory emission check location, you will fail the test due to the SES lamp being on. The solenoid could be a DIY job if you are willing/able to lower the powertrain cradle far enough to get into the transaxle side cover. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
