cdictas Posted May 12, 2004 Report Share Posted May 12, 2004 Guys, Is it possible to drop the transmission only on a 96 Eldorado ETC? I'm evaluating a friends car, which has the dreaded P0717 code current. Also, the vehicle is leaking oil from the rear main seal. Can the rear main be replaced if the tranny can be dropped? shiden_kai Posted May 13, 2004 Report Share Posted May 13, 2004 Yes, you can remove only the transmission. You have to have something to support the engine, as it will be hanging in the air. You can remove the rear main seal after the transmission and the flexplate have been removed. You also will obviously have to remove the entire subframe and rack.
