Spurlee
I've started getting a message that reads "Svc Brake Switch" along with the red dash light on my 1996 El Dorado. Do you think it's this inexpensive Brake Fluid Level Sensor: http://info.rockauto.com/Airtex/Detail.html?5S1194.jpg or this relatively expensive Brake Pressure Warning Switch: http://198.208.187.182/internet/PartImage....artnbr=16231141 The fluid level is fine and the brakes are within 10,000 miles. JimD
If it lights a warning it must also set a trouble code. Can you retrieve the trouble code? Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
Spurlee
Interestingly, it does not. That's why I'm wondering about the repair. I'm away from the car now, so this is from memory...this weekend I'll pull the codes just to be sure. The light comes on periodically but will extinguish itself as well after a couple of start/stop cycles or a day or so. The brake fluid level sensor is at the very bottom of the resovior, you'd have to be pretty near the end of things for that to trigger I'd think but then I'm not sure how it actually works. JimD
You might also double check the brake fluid level switch chassis connector for cleanliness and security. However, I'm pretty sure (going from memory now) that the fluid level switch logic is also used in the ABS and Traction Control systems. So if those systems think the fluid level is low, it will result in more than a simple warning on the DIC. But I have been wrong in the past. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
