Car wax and cleaners ?

Recommended Posts

I know its been a while since I asked last , but has anyone found any new products that they really liked ? I recently noticed I have some very tiny and fine marks on my car, and I would like to get them off. Any ideas ?

Thank-you all,

Michael S

I have always had good luck with buying car wash products that say they have wax mixed in. Not sure if it's really true, but I get the best shine when doing a regular wash on my caddy with these products (doesn't seem to matter what brand) and I always gets lots of compliments. I never seem to have time to actually wax the caddy, so this works for me. Doubt it would help actually getting out scratches though....

I am a big fan of http://www.meguiars.com/

I use their three step process (cleaner, polish and wax) twice a year plus a clay bar. Note, I was at my caddy dealer the other day and they were clay baring a car, NICE... Polish FEEDS the paint and small scratches go away, I find the more polish I use the better the finish. I use touch up paint on tiny dings that I got at the dealer.

The rest of the year, I get my car hand washed and I drive it home, rinse it down and use Meguiars NXT Tech Wax, the car is smooth and glasslike. If you don't have a shammy buy one, the are expensive, but I use it for my final rub down (not to remove wax but to buff) and it brings up the shine!

Before I take my car to the car wash I use Bon-Ami for windows on my windows to take off road dirt and wax. Water sheets and the wipers work perfect. The Bon-Ami causes the windows to shine beautifully

I use RAGG TOPP from Wolfsteins for my cloth top, water sheets off >> http://www.wolfsteins.com/main.htm

I use Lexol cleaner and conditioner on my seats and steering wheel. NO armorall at all, stuff sucks if you ask me! I DO NOT want my dash cover shining only clean!

I recently rented one of those carpet cleaners from the grocery store and steam cleaned my carpets with a hand held attachement, worked perfect!

I can't tell you how many people are STUNNED that my car is 10 years old...

I've read your mentions of the Bon-Ami product in the past. Usually it was connected to a "where do I get it?" kinda post.

So, I'm listening. Where do I get it? :D

I'd guess I'd want to use it after the carwash, but you recommend before?

Regards,

Warren

Warren, I got my Bon-Ami at Best Hardware on Main Street in Smithtown. See it here, the one for windows: http://doitbest.com/DoItBest/main.aspx?Pag...rchType=PRODUCT

If you do a search on that site you can find a store near you, Mike

I do it before I go to the car wash as you make a paste with it and scrub the windows with it, and then hose it off, it is like AJAX and needs to be washed off with a hose

Pop, (bbf)

Thats what I have been using !

Thank-you all :)

Michael-

Heres something I have recently done and why, I had sap on my car from taking it camping so I added a touch of Axjax dish soap in with my meguairs car wash soap and it seems after washing the car twice it took the dead wax per say off the car. I had this car all the time...lol So I put spray wax on twice the other night and it shined up so nicely. But I'm thinking Im gonna have to use a compund wax on her.

MIKE, WAIT, last year my grandmother had pine sap all over her car, a candy apple red Taurus. I used laquer thinner and it came off IMMEDIATELY! Try it, Mike

If you do a little research you will find that laquer thinner is recommended for sap. Put a little on a soft cotton rag or towel and you will be amazed

I've just started using Duragloss Aquawax on the Deville - it's an all-polymer spray on wax that seems very good - spray on , wipe it around, let it dry for about 2 minutes, and wipe (note I wrote WIPE, not BUFF!!!) it off. Very nice shine, great beading, even smells good. About 8 bucks for a 22 oz bottle. Highly recommended as an LSP....

Jim, your Eldorado looks exceptionally nice.

I noticed you removed the paint on the inside coves of your chrome rims.

I've done the same ... its amazing how much more chrome is visible after this is done.

Very nice.

Thanks. There are still flaws, but with black, I'd go nuts(er) trying to stay ahead of them. The bugs around here wear hobnailed boots, so even THEY leave marks.. :P

I took the plunge, as you noted, and removed the gray paint on the wheels. Careful application of stripper stuff, plenty of water and a brush, and within about two hours each one was done. They do shine up nicely now...even the plastic center cap.

Mike I knew your "muscle car in an Armani suit" sounded familiar, see Scotty's post here that I made:
