Diagnostic scanners

Does anyone know if there are any other diagnostic scanners out there that do almost the same job as the Tech 2 and are a bit cheaper in price? A scanner that can test and interogate systems and controls of our caddy's.

What are you trying to do? I just bought the Autotap with exhanced GM parameters. I have not used it enough to be proficient in it so i can't help you much. But you can see it here.

http://www.autotap.com/

Click Autotap for Windows and you will get a good description of what it can do. Click See all data under manufacturer enhanced data. You will need a laptop, Mike

No, most aftermarket scanners and laptop software is limited to Powertrain 'read only' data. Yeah, you may be able to clear codes but thats about it.

Upper level scanners like OTC or Snap ON.....you get some functional tests but it is typically reverse enginneered and a couple of years behind the factory tool. Also, cartridges for Air Bags or ABS etc are available but may cost $800 per cartridge.

The factory Tech 2 covers everything right out of the box. Powertrain, transmission, ABS, Air Bag, Body control module etc....everything. The Tech 2 also offers bidirectional control of components for testing. So you can turn things on/off like fuel pumps, injectors, EGR valves, IAC valves etc.

Another nice thing about the Tech 2 is the memory card (currently 32mb). To update the memory card you simply install it into a updated Tech 2....in about 5 minutes that card is now updated. No more $600-800 software updates.
