JimD
I have purchased parts from several of the web-based operations and they all seem to be competitive when you look at the total cost of the item delivered to your door. The struts are coming from Brasington Cadillac - Saab in Gainesville, FL. http://www.gmotors.com/contact.asp You can actually speak with a real person and get answers. In fact, they called me several times to double check details. In addition to the local # on their web page, they also have 800-535-4608. Ask for Bill in parts. Jim Drive your car. jhall
JimD, Are you replacing the strut and the spring as an assembly or will you remove the spring? I am preparing to do the same on my '97 Deville, but I'm not sure sure how to remove the spring without the compression rig shown in the manual. Hope it's golden Jim. :-) There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. epricedright
I've never replaced struts before, but I read the springs can be dangerous. My minivan needs struts or mounts, as I have clunking noise, but I was intimidated after reading how dangerous they can be if you don't know what you're doing and don't have the spring tool...that would be me. Did you need the spring compressor to remove the strut assembly that's pictured, or just when R & R the strut itself? Did you rent the tool...how much was the rental? I would love to see the pic of the spring compressor.
JimD
One spring compressor picture coming right up. Yes, they are potentially dangerous; think loaded gun. With appropriate caution and taking it slowly, it is just another labor intensive job. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! BodybyFisher
Thanks for that photo Jim, that is the compressor that I purchased and plan to use this weekend... I will post photos also.. Are you replacing the strut mounts also? As you know I purchased new springs, mounts, insulators and boots.. epricedright
Ahhhh, ok, so that's what a compressor tool looks like. Thanks for the pic. So you don't need the compresor tool to take the whole assembly out, but just to exchange the strut, right? How much did your compressor cost you Mike? JimD
I did not buy any of the other pieces. Was willing to inspect and replace with local dealer parts if required. The bearing on the one that is apart feels smooth and the insulators are reuseable. UPS should be here any minute now and I can get on with it. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! JimD
Mike: You probably know this, but just in case; do not expect the bottom bolts to turn.
