Alternator

Do Delco alternators crap out at 81900?

I have 84,500 with original alternator and many have over 150K with theirs. So I would say no they didn't plan for them to go out at 81,900. Whatever you do however, if you replace yours replace it with an AC DELCO, we have had bad results with aftermarket units.

I agree on the AC Delco, I have a "Lifetime" Bosch. The lifetime on the Bosch is only about 8 or 9 months and then the voltage regulator goes out....... I have replaced 3 of the lifetime Bosch alternators. Get the AC Delco or rebuilt AC Delco.

On my way to work this morning the battery light and computer warning for No Charge came on.

My '97 Eldo has 81900 on it.

Do Delco alternators crap out at 81900?

Any advice is highly valued.

Thanks much!

148.000 miles with original one. Have you jump started someone recently?

The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

The alternator just went on my '96 ElDorado at 120,000. Definately not a DIY replacement event. $380 AC/Delco replacement and $150 labor.

Hi all.

81900 orignal equipment Delco deader'n Julius Caesar. Never jump started anyone. It failed all three parameters of the test. I bought a rebuilt Delco (I hate rebuilds!). It was all I could get. I'll buy a factory new in a coupla months and install it some Saturday after the hot weather.

Thank you all for your advice...

If it was an AC Delco rebuild that is OK. Soe I am not sure what you said, you replaced the alernator and all is OK now?
