which oil?

One thing we all need to remember when checking that board, is that they sell motor oil. The more of it the better in their minds, including the 3000 mile O/C myth. bbob, for all of his knowledge was doomed to fail from the start on that board because they didn't want to learn the truth about the OLM and the fallicy of the 3000 mile change. I have personally vindicated the OLM over there in my own way, and by doing that I feel that I may have vindicated bbob to some extent. Not that he was wrong in any way, but they just refused to see the truth about the OLM.

So what you end up with is a lot of good factual information, but with a blind refusal to change their way of thinking. If you can sort out the facts from the BS you can learn quite a bit about oil. But of course that's true in life isn't it?

It has happened many times on that board, and I've caught them several times myself, that anytime a GMOLM report is posted (and they're all favorable btw) the post is locked and quickly deleted (I think they call it "moved" sometimes, but not always).

I was referring to the bobistheoilguy site in my post, so forgive me if you'all meant the motorcycle site is it?

Kinda' ironic, the last post(s) I remember from him (was a long one at that that) was on the subject line of unions last spring or early summer if I recall correctly and became somewhat contentious!

Yes you remember correctly, IMO that was not our best thread.

Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.

You can not blame him a bit, the deck is stacked against american car manufacturers, in so many ways.

I've heard about the 3k mile O/C "myth". I am not prepared to argue for or against, however, a few years back I had an opportunity to tear down and rebuild an Alfa Romeo V-6 engine that had well over 100K miles on it and had had it's oil changed every 3K miles. The main and rod bearings had no scratches and still mic'd to factory spec and could have been re-used in the rebuild... I would think the 3k O/Cs may have had something to do with that.

Adallak,

He really enlightened me with the 10W-30 of the 1980 to the 10W-30 of today. I remember 1 conversation and I just happened to mention the fluid (don't recall the name of it) that had to be installed when the rear end grease was changed on GM cars that had positive traction rear end. As I recollect the stuff originally came from an organic source ... whales if I recall correctly and the stuff today wasn't quite as good. What a wealth of knowledge.

One thing I've always liked about this board is for the most part we don't need to sit in a R or X rated room to read some the post like you do on other forums!

Cheers!

Jim
