Cassie
I do not know much about this but am a person to try to solve my own problems... kinda of a do it yourself girl... I don't know if I can handle this but at least would like to try or at a minimum be able to figure out what is wrong... I heard what sounded like air leaking and first thought I had a leak in my passenger rear tire but after investigating I think it has to do with the air ride as when I turn the car on the compressor will constantly run and I do not want to burn it up.... I could not see or feel where this was coming from... hoping or praying.. maybe it could be a leaking line only.??? Would I be able to see this or have access to this by removing the tire? Any suggestions will be helpful as to... how to figure out what it is and what to do next... I have never delt with this type of problem before... I am not sure but do not think this cadillac has an actual air bag like the lincolns do... but am not sure... If you have any ideas or input they would greatly be apreciated!!! BodybyFisher
You diagnosed it good. It is either the tubing or one of your air shocks. An inspection will uncover which it is... However, before you burn out your compressor, find the level control compressor fuse and pull it out, do not delay or you will need a compressor also... Look in your owners manual for the level control fuse, or maybe someone else here with a 94 can help. If you don't have an owner's manual, down load a PDF copy here, http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/resources-cad.html#om Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
PAUL T
Are there any codes showing? With key on (engine off) press the "off" and "warmer" buttons on the Climate Control Panel until the dash lights up. The codes will display quickly, so be ready, in the message center. When diagnostics are through "PCM?" will come up. I suspect you have a "RSS" code. History codes mean they have happened and Current codes mean they are happening right now. Turn key off or press the "Auto" button to get out of diagnostics. Post your findings, I have a 94 shop manual and can decode the codes for you. The height sensor electronically limits compressor run time from 4.5-7 minutes, this prevents continuous compressor operation.
BodybyFisher
I just looked in your manual on PAGE 316, FUSE 5 in the MAXI FUSE block controls the: Heated Seats Electronic Level Control Trunk Pulldown Power Antenna and Mirror Defoggers. Its probably best to disconnect the compressor connector at the compressor, but that would require getting under the car or getting it up on a lift. Here is a diagram of the rear suspension from my 91, but your's is probably similar, maybe Paul can confirm that: The height sensor electronically limits compressor run time from 4.5-7 minutes, this prevents continuous compressor operation. Paul I did not know that..... I have seen other people burning out their compressor's and thought it was related to continuous running, do some models not have this run time limit?... cadillacjeff7777
Yea, it sounds like your load leveling air shock. I would just pull the plug on the compressor until the shocks totally go bad. The air is just for if you put a heavy item in the trunk or have heavy people in the back seat. It lifts the car back up to nominal height. You'll feel the ride when it goes bad or it will tell you to service ride control(God knows that we all are too familiar with that message) on the driver information center(DIC). My 95 SLS never kicked on the message until 318,000 miles but my 93 Seville kicked it on at like 132,000 miles. 2008 DTS
adallak
Cassie, Any recent work in the rear of the car? It could be just an accidentally disconnected air tube. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
PAUL T
Mike, the picture is very similar but, the location of the compressor is on the right side of the car on top of the rear suspension support, according to the 94 manual, right where Cassie said the noise was coming from. All tube connections are snap on with 2 o-rings to seal. Spray the lines with a soapy water mixture if the leak is not easy to locate otherwise. Ranger
Soapy water is a great way to find a leak but, if you can hear it, it is likely a bad leak like a disconnected/severed hose and should be quite visible once you or someone else gets under the car, especially if it is hissing at the time. KHE
It is most likely a leak in the air line(s). As stated before, trace the lines from the compressor to the rear shocks looking for leaks. Pay close attention where the lines are near moving suspension components. Cassie
Hi this is Cassie again.... I want to Thank everyone who answered!! I jacked up that side today and took off the tire and took a look. I could not find a cut or leak in the small line and felt the air was escaping from where it hooks up to the shock.. I removed the clip and cleaned out the line some and the cap and reapplied it making sure it has a good seal and as of now no more leaking air sound!!!!! and compressor seems to be functioning normal. I will pay close attention to it to make sure the problem is solved. I was really worried I have read alot of stuff about codes that come up concerning the air ride... and also the cost in replacement and thought I was in for it!! No codes have ever come up yet and I will keep my fingers crossed. But now I know if ( when is probably more like it.)... it happens I can turn for expert advise!! Thanks again to you all!! I wish a Very Merry Christmas to you all and The Best New Year Ever!!! Cassie
