davedog
Hey guys. Good to be back. As you guys might remember I was having some problems with my passanger side window a while back. It would stop halfway going up, but slamming the door while holding the button would make it go up. I added some grease to the tracks which seemed to solve it. Now it's getting stuck again. I think it's the motor, and sometimes I have to pull on the window while holding the button instead of slamming the door. I'm trying not to use that window but I forget sometimes. Also, now when the window reaches the top the motor makes a grinding/clicking noise instead of stopping. I'm thinking the motor is going bad and has some bad places in it. I priced a new one at $59. Only three bolts to take it off but the manual says I have to have a special tool to release this big spring first or I could damage the whole setup. Where do you get this tool? Has anyone ever done this? Or am I just better off leaving this one to the pros? On my old caddy (87 deville), it just swapped out, but this sping thing is new to me. Ed Fenwick
Aloha, Yea Dave, that spring thing looks to be a problem without the tool to hold it in. You might try cleaning all of the electrics associated with the motor. 'Sounds like slaming the door made a connection now and then. Good luck Ed
davedog
well, my concern now is the clicking grinding noise it makes when it gets to the top. It seems to me that there is now some sort of sensor that should tell the motor to stop that has now gone bad, and it's stitting there grinding away at who knows what until you let off the button. I would assume that this fuction is built in to the motor and that replacing the motor would resolve this problem as well. So that brings be back to that special tool. Anyone have any experience with this? Crystal Red Tintcoat Exterior | Shale/Brownstone Interior | 32k
jgr7
Dave here is a link from when I had trouble with my 94 Eldo window. http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11205 The switch if I remember has a thermal breaker that opens when the window bottoms or tops out and loads the motor up. this could be the problem. The other issue is the motor has some dead spots,I took mine apart and cleaned it up.The link will give you the info on what I did. You didn't need the spring tool to take out the motor on the 94. It holds the window up and didn't even move when I pulled the motor out. You can buy new motors off of ebay and lots of other places, do a google search with a part number and you should find some. davedog
so i can just remove the three screws and pull the motor out without worrying about this spring they preach about in the manual??? Thats freakin' awesome. Should the window be up or down, or does it even matter? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jgr7
Doesn't matter up or down the spring just holds the weight, you can move the window by hand with the motor out. read the link that I gave and the instructions for cleaning the motor and if you need any thing else let me know. Jeff thanks man, I may pull it out tonight after work, I'll let you know! Thanks so much. I wonder why bthey put all thos warnings about de-springing the spring or whatever, just so you would take it in for service i guess.... BSchlossmann
No spring in my 93 Eldo. Three bolts and the motor comes right out. The ratcheting noise is most likely comming from the plactic drive wheel inside the motor assembly missing a few teeth. This is an easy repair. The hardest part is getting the door panel off without breaking any clips. See my earlier post about taking off the door panel. It's the phillips screw below the window arm rest switch. davedog
well, I was all ready to pull the thing out and do it myself, and then I decided to give my local mechanic, who I trust, a call. He said about $50 for the motor and $50 for labor. Not bad, but I was still going to do it myself until i found out he needed some work on his laptop, so it looks like it will work out to be and even trade and I'll get it done after Christmas when we both have time. bartering is fun! -dave Crystal Red Tintcoat Exterior | Shale/Brownstone Interior | 32k
jgr7
Sounds like a good deal for both of you. Jeff
davedog
Sounds like a good deal for both of you. Jeff Yeah, I think so. Thanks for all your help though Jeff, I felt informed enough to do the job myself, but having a pro do it for this kind of deal seemed like a no-brainer to me, that way if something goes wrong it's his problem. But if he had not needed the computer work, I would have just done it myself. Thanks again! -dave Crystal Red Tintcoat Exterior | Shale/Brownstone Interior | 32k
