'97 Eldorado.. Drivers side window quit working..

hi guys,

my drivers side window quit working in my '97 eldorado.

the motor does not make any sound when you push on the switch.. it didn't slowly move to a stop., it just stopped about half way down/up.

my passenger side window works just fine.

anyway, i went by the dealer, and the service advisor said that if it was a fuse, that both windows would stop working.

so, they said either switch or motor.

i was thinking in the meantime, if it was the switch.., does anyone out there know which wires i could jump together on the back of the switch so i could just roll it up ?

if it is the motor., anyone know a manual way to put the window up until i get a new motor ?

thanks,

kevin

I know this may sounds a little primitive, but, try holding the switch in the up position, and closing the door abruptly. (didn't want to say slam it)on my old 95 STS my rear passanger window wouldnt go down until you held the switch and slammed the door, then if worked fine for a few days.

Worth a try.

thanks matt.,

i just tried that., it didn't work..

what i did do was take the interior panel off of the door and then i moved the thing by hand.. it finally started working.

which means, that the motor probably has a dead/bad spot on it.., so i will just eventually replace the motor.

Take the motor off and hook it up to a 12 volt battery charger. Run it in both directions. This could possibly remove the dead spot. Replacement motors are around $45, I pickup up a used one on E-bay for $20 delivered. Works fine. While your in the door, re-grease both rails with the motor out and run the window up and down several times by just pushing / pulling on the glass. With the motor out, attach the power and try the window switch. This would be the same as using a battery charger memtioned earlier.
