New rotors and pads

Hey guys. Well I heard a scratching sounds coming from the front passenger side wheel. So I deem is about time to replace rotors and pads. Reason I want to change out rotors and pads is because it uses standard rotors and I want to give the slotted+drilled rotors a try. I believe they dissipate the heat quicker. So, any recommendations? I could order them off eBay, but I would rather go down to the local AutoZone/PepBoys/Advance Auto parts store to get them.

I have those same rotors on my '00 STS that were bought off of eBay and have had excellent luck with them. They have been on almost 1 year now and work excellent. I paired them with Bendix pads, which I swear by. I usually get around 50k miles out of Bendix pads, combo city and highway driving. I am sure the consistency of quality of these rotors is hit and miss and I probably just got lucky. I would definitely recommend Bendix pads though. Good luck.

Why do you want to change rotors. Are you having problems with the OEM rotors?

I was thinking the same thing Larry. Sounds to me if anything you might need new pads....unless there's something else other then the scraping sound that's happening. The Bendix Premium pads I have are terrific.

I put on new Raybestos Quiet Stop ceramic pads and Quiet Stop rotors F&R last year and love them. I purchased them from rockauto...they were on my doorstop the next day (used regular shipping too). They stop good, are quiet and best of all...zero brake dust. I feel ceramic is the only way to go. I've gone through mega sets of pads from Autozone on other vehicles...they just don't seem to last. Raybestos has my business now. My old rotors were shot and pitted and couldn't be turned. I would have liked to have tried the drilled and slotted rotors, but couldn't justify the cost at the time. I didn't do enough research at the time to see if there was enough benefit using them. Having done some research since then, it appears they are the best way to go (if you can afford them).

I love them, and I think they were the best $300 I put into ANY car. I have over 60k miles on those rotors and Bendix pads and I haven't had to TOUCH them (not even had 'em turned) since install. Excellent investment if you ask me.

Nice upgrade on the rotors...

My rotors have been turned twice and I will be doing this with my next brake job.

But aren't we kind-of stuck with OEM pads... With the electronic wear sensor... A buddy of mine went aftermarket with his pads and had nothing but problems, first trying to re-use the old senors, then trying to buy just the sensors...

Eventually he just swapped out his Aftermarket pad and bought Delco units that come with new sensors...

Has this problem been licked?

You can jumper the pins in the sensor chassis connectors at the locations that don't have sensors installed. What you will be doing is simulating the sensor with a jumper so the circuit that connects to all four corners (in series) is complete and the brake pad message is OFF.

And of course, your early warning radar will not work for the pads where the jumper is installed.
