Ranger
I seem to be hearing a lot of complaints about them. I just had the passenger side fixed under warranty on my new SLS. It was bad when I bought it and never realized. It also was the element. When ever I use mine I just leave it on enough to warm the seat and take the chill out. My guess is it is just the opposite, over use that burns them out.
tjtjwdad
My drivers seat was bad when I got it. I rarely ever use mine but when I do I'm alot like Ranger; turn it on to knock off the chill then turn it off. Is it a good design? I've wondered with the constant flexing of the seats if they are desgned to with stand that over a long period of time? Jim

coolnesss
My passenger's side seat went out a few times under warranty - the guy who fixed it claimed it was because of peeps spilling drinks on the seat. No one spilled a drink on the seat in my car. Go figure.
JIMDTS
VBG it could be Wendys chilli I eat lunch at wendys maybe once a month. I never really used the seats only a handful of times and each time it was not for a long period I have to drop it off next week so they can fix the seat it's the elements I stopped at the dealer this morning. I have the heated seats in my Fleetwood - whenever I use the seat heat, it is just until the seat warms up and then I turn it off - so far, after 12 years, they still work fine. I only use the seat heat at the beginning and the tail end of the driving season as I store it for the winter. JIMDTS
Hi KHE The older cadillac never had these problems It appears it's the late 90's and early 2000's that have issues They must have put some cheap elements in the seats. I never had these problems in the 70's through 90's models Jim
KHE
That could be the case - I don't recall reading about any element failures on the cars up until the 1998 model year STS. The heated seats have only been out since the early '90s though - I think heated seats first appeared in the 1992 Seville STS, then on the 1993 Fleetwood Brougham. They were optional on the Devilles starting in '94. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71

TDK
Folks, It seems that "toaster wire technology" is doomed to failure. The inherantly brittle wire under a flexing seat application across a wide range of operating conditions -simply cannot last. Actually, its a wonder that they last as long as they do! This is probably why Caddy and other luxery makes decided to use Peliteir (check spelling) heating/cooling devices - with no moving parts. I wonder if they can be retro fit? Good luck Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.
