Matt,

I tried to convince Scotty to remain visible because far more members count on his vast knowledge but more importantly his unselfish willingness to help than the increasing number of morons that heckle him. However, lately it seems that the hecklers, poor posters, and the GM/Cadillac haters outnumber the upstanding majority. On the old board when we would get an idiot posting nonsense or counter productive information the hoards of upstanding members would smite down the usurper with a force of a hundred Mack trucks. I believe those upstanding members are still here and in attendance but have merely lost their way temporarily. The problem is that morons and malcontents appear to have the loudest voice lately. And to the upstanding majority that can seem a bit overwhelming because just as it is with the media, when all you see on television are horrible people doing horrible acts you begin to wonder if you're the only one that knows right from wrong and how to act properly...you feel alone. And because we aren't all in the same room we don't truely know our numbers but we are the majority, trust me.

Here's something I wrote a few years ago that is appropriate:

" When did it become vogue to remain silent while the unjust perverse our sense of right and wrong?

Those riding the wave of injustice pound loudly against the serene land of the just. At first glance there appears to be little change. Eventually, over time, the wave will wear away the land unless the land erupts, spewing forth its fury to reclaim what it should have never lost. " -kg

Thank you Kger2, I could not have said it better, you have been a stabilizing force for me over the years and I thank you friend. When you participate a lot, its hard not to allow this to become personal and you have always put that into focus for me. We all know how loyal I feel toward GM and Cadillac.

Participation has taken a lot out of me lately and this day has been approaching. The tone, type and attitude of some of the new members sucks. Its like watching the current day street ball NBA compared to the old school NBA. Cadillac is more than a car for me, its got nothing to do with warranties, its got nothing to do with repairs, it has to do with the way I feel when I drive one. There is no feeling like that in the world. Lately there has been an individual that has been ripping the Northstar. I am not an engineer, but from my brief association with it, at a meager 279 cubic inches, the Northstar System is the most incredible engineering marvel, I have ever had the pleasure to tinker with, simply incredible. Friday I had the pleasure to speak to Mark99STS over the phone for a long time. He is an amazing guy, the enthusiasm that came through the phone warmed my heart, he is OUT there with it comes to the Northstar and he really appreciates its genious. He is doing some amazing things, keep an eye on him. He made me realize even more, how incredible the Northstar system is. You know, if you were born recently or if you are not a car NUT, you have no historical perspective as to exactly how incredible the Northstar System really is. To share in its incredible engineering and performance, I can put up with a few drops of oil on the floor or a cold knock once in a while and I don't mind getting under the car and getting my hands dirty. I guess if I was clueless, had fat fingers and HAD to take this car to the dealer because I was not mechanically inclined, it would be a different story.

Lately a few have said, GET A LIFE.... Well, Caddyinfo, was my life for a long time, I sit in front of the computer 16 hours in my job and it has been easy to participate. It will be hard to stay away but I must. I have enjoyed helping when I could, that was the best part of my participation, helping people all around the world. I think my fondest memories were sending 4.9 engines to Amsterdam and North Jersey and seeing them solve someones problem, but there are so many memories. But it is time to Get a Life.

I am going to need all of the great members here to keep my aging 96 Deville on the road. I love this car. Thanks

Well said Kger!!

I'm one of the originals here and I still read a lot, but my posts have really dropped off too, for mainly the reasons you mentioned. I just don't do well with idiots. Needing help is one thing, being a source of continuing crap is another entirely. My philisophy has been "ignore the moron, and he will go away". Every time I falter from that, it just eggs them on. Duh.

If we could all only team up on this, on NOT respond to these never ending fountains of negativity, this forum might be a better place. wink.gif

PS Mike, (Scotty) you'll be missed, brother..

Scotty,

I understand you completely. You are mine kind of person - one who thinks "how can I help this guy" instead of "how can I use this guy". How many of those who willingly or unwillingly insulted you would go to junkyard to find, take pictures, talk to the owner and finally arrange shipping of an used 4.9 for Matt, or ship one to Holland? How about having scanned instructions from FSM for a problem you posted five minutes ago?

Ignoring idiots or mean, narrow minded, arrogant (arrogance + stupidity) people is the only way to treat them. THEY DO NOT DESERVE MORE THAN THAT! The problem is that the majority of members who behaved lately as a@@@@ls are new members. They do not know you, and they were not among those whom you helped out...

It is your desicion, but please know morons come and go and good members stay. Thanks for all your help! Your posts in archives will help hundreds of Cadillac owners even in ten years.

Never argue with a idiot, people many not know the difference. This is a public forum and there WILL be differences of opinions (Thanks for the site Bruce!) don't take anything personal. Have some Turkey and gravy catch a few games and unwind, look forward to hearing from you again wink.gif

P.S. with this type of medium its easy to take things the wrong way (as opposed to talking over a cold beer biggrin.gif )

Take it easy, Joe

yeah, i've posted on an OT thread...i was just suggesting that it be marked as such...no malice intended...that thread that has been pointed out was marked as OT...just courtesey....like i said...No insult meant by it...I have no problem with anyone posting OT threads...I was merely suggesting that the tread be marked as such.

I was just suggesting editing the title of the thread...not eating your firstborn :-)

Mike, I hope you have a change of heart. You have always gone way out of your way to help others and you always went that extra mile helping me and for that, I thank you! I consider you a very special friend here on the board who will be missed like no other if you decide to go.

You have helped me in more ways than I can count. You have helped me by giving me great advice,

by looking up past post that pertained to my problem, by scanning pages from the service manual when I didn't yet have one, and have even loaned me your tools when I needed them without me even asking. Friends like that are hard to find these days. I just prey that I can one day, somehow, return the favor.

I remember when I first purchased my caddy, and encountered a few problems, and thought I would look online for some advice. I had never gone to the internet before for advice in this manner, so I wasn't sure what to expect. That's when I ran across this board, and you were one of the first guys to help me. I thought man, I can't believe how great this board is, how nice you were, and how great the internet is. I have since had other questions and problems with other things besides cars that needed answers; thinking there were other sites online that were as good as this; and I have yet to run across a board anywhere near as nice as this, with genuine GOOD guys, like here on this board. So Bruce, I thank you for creating such a great site that has no doubt helped so many. But no matter how great the website is put together; for which this site is the best; it's the people that make the difference, and Mike, you're one of those special people that makes this site so great!

I'm not sure what all you have had to put up with here on the board, but please try to ignore those trolls that upset you so. I learned a long time ago, that when dealing with the public, there will always be donks out there, that simply need to be ignored.

I've got to put my 2 cents in as well. As a fellow original member from the OLD board, I've seen a marked change in the style of discussion here, and I'm sure I've been guilty myself in participation of it. Like Bob D. and others, my online presence here has been reduced largely to lurking lately. My feathers have been ruffled by a few threads in the past few months, and my day-to-day interest in the board has waned a bit.

Scotty, you're one of the most genuinely honest and good-natured people on this board, and your particiation will be deeply missed. So will your scanned pages from the factory service manual! wink.gif Hope to "see" you around soon.

Best wishes,

Jason

I too have noticed a definite change in the tone of the board - and these changes have made me more of lurker than anything else for the past few months. Like many others here, I am a carry over from the old board and the good old days of this place being a great site for finding help, tips and tricks to keep our cars on the road. The information shared by Scotty and others like him, (most especially the former guru) have helped me save thousands of dollars in repairs to my STS, as well as helping me gain little insight into how amazing our cars really are.

Wow thanks for all of the kind words and support.

I am here as BodybyFisher now in a reduced roll at least for awhile, I had to do that because, people reach out to Scotty and direct questions to Scotty and I didn't want to be rude with my intended reduced participation.

It is end of year for me and I am very busy with work, house work, my car, and the holiday preparation, basically I am overwhelmed. You know how I feel about Cadillac and GM so you know that the GM Bankrupcy thread and the annoying negative twist it has taken is disturbing to me. Some of you who know me a long time, know how much of a positive bird dog I can be in trying to solve another members problems, hell Kger2 and I even had Frank's (FSchuett) problem translated from German to English to try to help him!, PCM problems can go on for weeks, and I enjoy it! When I said, buy me a ticket and I will bring my tools to Germany I wasn't kidding! laugh.gif Negativity NEVER solves a problem. Just watch our current politics.

You know, I think this used to happen to the guru once in a while, you participate and participate and you begin saying the same things over and over and after a while, it gets tiring and repetitive. Lately we have members that have problems but they don't work with you to solve them, they don't interact and they communicate poorly (observation NOT criticism). I try hard to ignore trolls and antagonists but you know me! Negativity about anything just rubs me wrong. That comes from playing basketball, if you are down 10 points with 3 minutes to go... if you have a negative THOUGHT in your body.... get off the court! Negativity won't win the game!

You can imagine that I am upset by GM's woes and the state of our economy, outsourcing, politics, etc... What are our children going to do for a living, with jobs bleeding from this country? The world is in an up roar with the hurricanes, tsunmies, tornados, earthquakes, gas prices, new orleans, etc. You know me well enough to know that the politics of leaving Iraq and the Democrat rhetoric is annoying. I guess what I am saying is that I am not really in a good frame of mind lately, I felt the need to move away from Scotty and retire him. He really seems to be appreciated by so many and I am flattered by all of the kind words and support. He is in the archives. I am not being spiteful as ragoon wrote in an email to me, I just needed to stop being so involved at least for awhile. Believe me its hard to back away.

I am going to take a different approach, and when I do work on my car, I am going to video tape it and carefully photograph it and post detailed threads (as I have done with my AC and Rear Suspension), Mark99STS, jhall and others have done this. I think being more informative and illustrative rather than trying to weed through repetitive problems will be more valuable to the group. New members should be instructed to use the archive search more effectively. If you look back into some of my posts, lately I have tried to illustrate how to use the search feature.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving. And Thanks

Gee Scotty,

Hate to see ya' go sad.gif. I came over from the old board and I don't post near as often as I should. I'm just one of those that if I can't add anything to the discussion I'll just pass. Accordingly, I don't have the spare time to read each and every post like I once did and .... I too have had the displeasure to observe some post here from those that have "NO" command of the english language and I'm referring to the words choosen rather than grammer/spelling errors as well as "stirring the pot" mad.gif . Like the guru and some others here who are most helpfull ... you'll be missed!

Take Care of Yourself!!!

Mike,

It will be difficult not to think of you as "Scotty." Somehow calling you "Body" for short just seems awkward. Of course, if you actually want to be known as THE Body, well that's a different matter. tongue.gif

We're reaching that time of the year when folk like my cousin, the CPA, simply disappear off the face of the earth for obvious work related reasons.

I'm hopeful your business and family life are also cyclical in a similar sense such that we might expect to see you back in good form here one day.

After all, you did say, " . . . in a reduced roll at least for now ."

Whatever the future may bring, rest assured you and your family have my best wishes along, I'm sure, with those of many on this forum.

My very best regards,

Warren

Scotty is one of the upstanding members of this board. For those who do not know, he mailed me a tape (on his dime and effort) that he had from his old Seville explaining all the options and features the early 90's Cadillacs came with. Would I have done something like that? I more than likely would have tossed it in with the car when I sold it and the new owner would not have seen it and would find a garbage disposal with it. It wasn't a big thing but it's small things like that that make a board.

I have not been around as of late due to no problems with anything...until recently but I have been reading up on some of the latest threads and am finding lots of garbage. I have not been posting very much lately due to my upped presence on a snowmobile forum, and a girl that has me at wits end laugh.gif.

Scotty is someone we should all model ourselves after. If you're on here to be a jerk, take a hike. Another great person is soon, or maybe is gone from this board. It is a darn shame.

Thanks guys for all the kind words. As you can see from the recent developments on the site, some of my interactions were stressful. I really don't like people bullying others. Scotty to me had become a lightning rod for nasty comments and familiarity breeds contempt.

At 5,600 posts it began to look like I had no life. I can be thickheaded. blink.gif

I have always said the board is self-purging. Scotty had gotten into a couple of frey's that I wanted to forget about. I just wanted to be a 'regular' member again and not larger than life. There are many many talented members here that make this the best Cadillac resource in the world.

Thanks.
