Larry
I have a code 1406, the car runs bad , stalls ,ect. The computer says service emission system. I have puchased a rebuilt maf sensor to my surprise comes on the large intake sleeve with the intake screen. I don't have time to install today, but tomorrow Iwill. I was wondering does that intake pipe get dirty were the sensor pops in? The part rebuilt cost 140.00 Thanks, Larry ps the part I took out only had two screws and had two small wire sensors, that goes into the main unit. JimD
If that is P1406, which seems likely, my chart says; P1406 - EGR Valve Pintle Position Circuit. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
KHE
The P1406 code is the pintle position failure code. The EGR valve is likely sticking and the engine in receiving EGR at idle which is making it run rough and stall. Remove the EGR valve and clean the interface where the plunger interfaces with the base casting. Do not let any carb cleaner run into the valve or it will ruin the windings. After cleaning the valve, work the plunger in and out and it it exhibits any tendency to stick, keep cleaning. It is down stream of the filter (so dirt will not be a problem) and upstream of the TB (so carbon & PCV gasses will not get to it either).
Larry
Thanks so much , you were right, it was the egr valve . It was stuck in open position. I sprayed wd40 and turned and push up and down untill free and loose . And I cleand the pintal area with a small wire brush. The egr was hard to get off because a fitted gas line is bolted to it. I worked and pulled a little, and tried to undo gas line connections, some kind of quick connect , not much luck, but got egr off. There probabley was a bolt holding gas lines , I should have tried to undo, that may have helped, Thanks again
Ranger
It sounds like you have had the fuel rail recall done. The previous nylon rail was a bit more forgiving.
