1994 vs 1995 SLS Fuel Economy

I once had a 1994 SLS. While I had it, I took it on a 1000 mile trip and averaged 28.8 MPG for the whole trip. I have heard others getting this kind of fuel economy with SLS's.

This past weekend, I drove my current 1995 SLS approx 650 miles. I averaged ~23 MPG.sad.gif

Anyone have any ideas why my 1995 is not doing as well? Both trips were at speeds of 70-80 MPH. The 1995 SLS has 120,000 miles where the 1994 had 105,000 at the time. Both cars are/were very well maintained. Could my 1995 need Oxygen Sensors? Any ideas?

Oh yeah....how many Oxygen Sensors does a 1995 have? It is OBDI. I couldnt see any O2 sensors before or after the Catalytic Converter. Are there only 2?...one in each exhaust manifold?

Thanks in advance!

That is what my 95 sls gets on the highway, I also think tires play an important role on milage. I say that because as soon as I took off the original tires that the car came with (Michelin XW4's), and put Michelin Pilot XGT H4's, which is more of sticky type tire, I lost 3 miles per gallon. With the old tires I got 26 mpg.

I have Michelin Pilot XGT H4s on mine and get 29-31 mpg on the road. Maybe when I replace them, I can hit 35 on a trip!
