bigjayzway
Well I took the wife to Wal Mart yesterday. It was really windy. As I am going through the parking lot, a shopping cart comes whipping across the lot, and hit my fender. Nice big dent. I talked to the store Manager, and I was told to get 2 quotes. Cadillac dealer want $820.00 Ontario Auto Collision wants $699.00. Can't wait to see what becomes of this one! Big Jay Life is too short to grow up! adallak
I hate to see people leaving shopping carts right in the middle of parking lot. Even a slowly moving cart makes a quite noticeable damage. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
Bob D
Remember the thread I started when I went through this a couple of months ago? In my case it was kids pushing the cart while I was inside. (Caught them on the stores security hard drive recording). I was hoping it came under 'comprehensive' (vandalism, etc, zero deductable) But Nooooo, it's 'collision',250 deductable... Collision with a shopping cart... The total damage in my case was 1400 bucks. Had to replace and paint the entire front bumper. Good luck '93 STS.. opened, dropped, wide...fast. bigjayzway
Well the rep. from Wal Mart told me to get the quotes. I hope this means they were going to pay for it. If not I will have to get further involved in this one! I mean instead of having the employees gathering the carts, they were worried about all the leaves that had blown into the store. I even said to the manager, "don't you think the carts are more important, than these few leaves?" He agreed, and immediately sent out 4 employees to gather the carts. I checked with my insurance's legal dept. at USAA, and they told me that in no way was Safeway responsible for some unsupervised kids absconding a shopping cart and damaging someones car in the parking lot with it.. Perhaps in varies from state to state, mine being Calif.? Let us know, this could be interesting... '93 STS.. opened, dropped, wide...fast. The parking lot was littered with carts, and the winds were 70kms/h + this day. I will wait and see? Big Jay Life is too short to grow up!
jhall
My wife had this same thing happen in a grocery store parking lot. As we pulled into the space it felt like we got tagged by another car. Cart was at the top of the hill and rolled down the hill through the parking lot when the wind blew. A talk with the store manager was in order. They can be held liable for carts in the lot that "get away" through wind , terrain, etc because these instances are avoidable by collecting the carts from the lot. The real hassle came with the insurance company. Got two prices. Initially insurance was going to cover the cost at about 80%. Got a lower bid on second round and then they decided they would only pay 50%. To say I was angry would be an understatement - a call to the State Insurance Board helped make them see the light. Dumped them on the next billing cycle. Good luck with yours!
JasonA
To alleviate this situation in the future, always park at the highest point on the parking lot...or the very last spot...whichever is safest. Scotty
I always park far away from all of the activity. My wife makes fun of me for this habit, but why not? When we go to the movies, I drop them off and I park way in the back (next to the Corvettes, LOL) and walk..... This is especially true at the home centers like Home Depot and Lowes with the huge push carts they have for large building equipment and BJ's and Costco. adallak
Insurance companies, videocameras, courts, lowyers... This is actually all about us.We do not take carts to designated areas or at least make sure they will not cause a trouble. I see all the time a*****ls dropping stuff from the shelves and NEVER pick it up and put back! The same creatures leave carts in the middle of parking lots. I would not blame any store management. JasonA
I saw a jackass in a Toyota 4Runner at Lowe's one day. He loaded all the stuff in his vehicle, quickly looked around, and pushed the buggy behind the car next to his. Could've pushed it into the corral, sure. No, he was too lazy and it most likely hit someone's car at some point in the day. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" BSchlossmann
On my way into the store if I see a shopping cart in the parking lot I will take it with me into the store. When finished, return it to the coral. Like Mike, I park away from other vehicles. We also have an Aldi's grocery store where it takes $0.25 to obtain a cart, and the money is returned when you bring the cart back. You never see any carts in the parking lot and the customers don't seem to mind.
bigjayzway
Well I am happy to say it. I got the call today. They are paying for the damages! They are even paying for a rental car, while mine is being painted!!!! I am truly amazed. The claims lady was really nice, and said "sorry, and we will pay for everything." She called the bodyshop, and arranged it all! I called the shop, and they confirmed all of it, and my car is schedualed for paint on Monday! Huh....hooda thaught!?
