Flyer
No codes are thrown, but the problem has been increasing in frequency over the last month. When I accelerate, the engine seems to cut off for split seconds, and sometimes two or three times in a row. One time when it happend, I noticed the service engine light came on for the split second that the engine was surging, but went out immediately when the surging stopped. Is this engine sensor related? OR transmission related? Help appreciated. --Flyer '99 'Vert 'Vette 45k '97 SLS 55k Deceased: <'68 Mustang 200+k>, <'86 GMC S-10 180+k>, <'86 VW GTI 180+k>, <'86 Seville 195+k>, <'93 Seville 175+k>
Ranger
If the SES light came on, there should be a code stored.
Flyer
If the SES light came on, there should be a code stored. Well there was a P0603 code, but that is Keep Alive Memory Code, and I don't know how it relates to my problem. Appreciate any help with this symptom. thanks --Flyer '99 'Vert 'Vette 45k '97 SLS 55k Deceased: <'68 Mustang 200+k>, <'86 GMC S-10 180+k>, <'86 VW GTI 180+k>, <'86 Seville 195+k>, <'93 Seville 175+k>
JasonA
A flashing SES light indicates a severe misfire. It sounds like that's what you've got -- a severe misfire. When it's occuring, the SES light comes on momentary (does it ever flash?) to indicate the problem. This needs to be fixed immediately so you don't burn out your cat. Could be a bad plug, plug wire, coil, etc. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
PAUL T
I would check the battery cables for tightness first. Then I would check the plugs, wires, and coils. Check plug wires for arcing with a water mist/spray bottle at night. Coils will break down over a period of time and not throw a code. Coils are about $40-45 a piece. You can buy one and switch them out one at a time to see if your symptoms get better.
adallak
Flyer, Have you done fuel rail recall? Many reported problems with the ignition wires right after recall. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
