canadian95sts
I was driving around today and the ses light came on. I got two codes PC0340, and PC1337. I cant seem to find these on my list, can anyone provide some information on these codes? canadian95sts
Thanks Scotty, I did some surfing and also found the PC0340 code, but still cant seem to fine the PC1337. I was driving and the SES light came on and i only got one code at first, the PC0340. I cleared the code and the light went out. Then it came back on and thats when i got both codes. My next question is this, is it ok to drive the car, or am I gonna do some damage running it, and how do i go about fixing this problem. canadian95sts
Well i read through some old posts in the archives, and went out and cleaned the hell out of the battery terminals, (they were a little corroded), and changed the oil(needed doin anyway). Went out for a test drive and the SES light came back on with the same PC0340 code. I guess i have to replace the camshaft position sensor? Any idea how hard a job it is, I checked tonight and I can get the sensor for $40.00, just have to figure out how to change it. anyone done this? Scotty
Do me a favor an check your codes again, could it have been P1377 and not P1337? P1377 is IC Cam Pulse to 4X Reference Pulse. This code would make more sense in reference to Service Ignition System and is related to the P0340 due to the 4X. Check for electromagnetic interference from ignition wires. The test conditions for P0340 are DTC P0322 not set 4X reference pulses being received Engine speed at 1600 RPM or less Fault A CAM reference pulse was not received for 5.3 seconds The test conditions for P1377 are Too many or too few cam pulses Too many or too few 4X pulses Check for intermittant short to ground, short together or open condition on the Fuel Control (4X) circuit, the Cam Signal circuit, the Cam Low circuit and the Cam High circuit. Check terminal contact at the camshaft sensor connector terminals A nd B Check terminal contact at the ignition control module connector C2 terminals A and B, connector C3 terminal C and connector C4 terminals B and C. This statement was made Since this DTC (P1377) can set under normal conditions no diagnosis should be performed unless a driveability complaint is present. This DTC may also set if all 4 camshafts are off by one tooth, 10 degrees before top dead center, this will be accompanied by severe driveability complaints. Here is the location of the CAM sensor:
Scotty
In addition see this thread regarding green corrosion pay attention to Logan's post related to ignition modules http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?sho...c=4069&hl=green
canadian95sts
Thanks for the info Scotty, I noticed today when i was driving that it is an intermittant problem, i got the SES light and code twice in about an hour of driving. Im gonna check the connections tonight as well as interference from the ignition wires. Even when the SES light and code shows up, I am not experiencing any driveability issues, as discussed in the post you provided a link to. The car runs and idles fine, just throws the light and code everyonce in a while, which hopefully means that there is a problem with the connector or interference somewhere, I hope its as easy as that. Ill post my findings later tonight. canadian95sts
you were right scotty, i wrote down the code wrong, it is 1377. Diddnt have a chance to work on her tonight, we had three tornados touch down here, and there was too much wind and rain to get under the hood. Im gonna get to her tomorrow and check things out. Logan
The 'green ignition connections' issue deals with distrbutor vehicles with the 4.xL. Not a Northstar issue. canadian95sts
Logan, do you have any more advise on what to check out tomorrow? im tryin to get as much info as i can, im not really familliar with this topic. thanks, Matt A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...BUT, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "darn...that was fun!" www.madd.ca
Scotty
Matt, while it may be true that the 4.9 is susceptible to the green corrosion, the real point is that the diagnostics in the manual direct us toward bad connections whether they be; loose, corroded or otherwise or short or open circuits that could be intermittant. Look over the info I posted above, pay attention to these statements from the service manual that are related to bad contacts and connections: Check for intermittant short to ground, short together or open condition on the Fuel Control (4X) circuit, the Cam Signal circuit, the Cam Low circuit and the Cam High circuit. Check terminal contact at the camshaft sensor connector terminals A nd B Check terminal contact at the ignition control module connector C2 terminals A and B, connector C3 terminal C and connector C4 terminals B and C. This code seems to lean toward a bad connection. Do you have a manual? As you know, I have a 96 FSM, so if you need something out of it let me know. Later I will post the location of all of the engine sensors, I think I have a diagram. Mike
