97eldoetc
When the engine is cold it starts up just fine but when it is hot it takes two to three tries to get it started.... Does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks...
Ranger
FPR. It is located on the fuel rail. Pull the vacuum line off while the engine is running. Likely you'll find fuel leaking from it. If so, replace it.
adallak
If the reason is the flooded engine (leaky FPR as Ranger mentioned or injectors) starting the car with gas pedal floored should help (clear flood mode). Otherwise check the cables, battery terminals, grounds for visible or hidden corrosion. Probably 90 percent for starting issues are caused by that kind of stuff. 97eldoetc
I have a question. When you change the FPR, the book talks about doing an idle procedure. Does anyone know what that is and how to do it?? Thanks...

97eldoetc
The Chilton's manual says that after you change the FPR you should do the idle procedure but it doesn't show how to do it or what it is... I have not changed the FPR yet or even had a chance to check it but I was going to change it and see if that solves my problem because I just did a tune-up and changed the plugs and wires less than a year ago. The dealer did the recall on the fuel rail and I replaced the fuel filter and air filter about a year ago too...
JasonA
I wouldn't worry about doing the idle learn procedure. Changing the FPR for a new one shouldn't make any difference. Of all the times I've done stuff under the hood of mine (replacing FPR, cleaning the throttle body, cleaning the EGR valve), I've never done any idle learn procedure. In fact, I don't even know how to do it either! Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
