Northstar in a Classic

While at a car show this past summer I came across a 49 Caddy with Northstar power under the hood mounted front to back. I have heard of this a couple of times with the owners loving the power. Anybody else out there seen this great engine transplanted?

Oh yeah. In the last few years I've seen them pointing in the correct direction wink.gif in many variations. In car shows like SEMA and others the N*- has been in street rods, 40's,50's and 60's Cadillacs and a big push in sandrails. A lot of them have superchargers as well.

'93 STS.. opened, dropped, wide...fast.

I like the idea that in the correct orientation, you can get rid of the exhaust crossover pipe and put on headers or a straight back exhaust if stock exhaust manifolds are available.

Every one I've seen were using headers... nice matched length custom bends. Works of art they were.. cool.gif

There was a guy who had an '84 Hurst/Olds with a Northstar. He liked it, but commented that for the money he had in it, he could have had much more engine.

That may have been it, but I'm not sure. Note they changed the color scheme from an '84 (silver over black) to an '83 (black over silver).

Hot Rod did an article on one in a 80 something coupe d ville it was a pretty good article about the obstacles you need to overcome to put it in rear wheel drive, I saw a Pontiac grand prix on ebay with a northstar in it.

Hmm I've seen them in a Delorean, VW Golf, Fiero, Gran Prix, MR2, and of course the Sand Rails.
