Ranger
It is refering to the ELC (electronic level control) compressor. I think it can be service seperately without replacing the compressor.
KHE
The exhaust solenoid can be replaced separately - there is no need to replace the entire compressor assembly. You need to find out where the short to ground is occurring - unplug the exhaust solenoid and see if the code goes to history - if it does, the solenoid is shot. If not, the short is elsewhere in the circuit. The exhaust solenoid is part of the compressor head and there is a torque sequence and a sealing method outlined in the service manual. Jason15036
would that explain the code if I have my compressor unplugged. It works fine but I just dont like the high ride it makes in the back of the car. Jason

It works fine but I just dont like the high ride it makes in the back of the car. Jason Not sure why a short to ground code would set with the compressor unplugged. If the ride height is not correct (by comparing the height of the car on a level service compared to the shop manual), it is possible that the leven sensor is misadjusted. Jason15036
so it sits level with the compressor plugged in the back, it just looks to high to me, so I unplugged it and let a little air to where it sits where I like. This is just tempory because I have 22s on the way and then Im gonna lower it right. Thanks for the advice. Jason
