rayntx
boy, have a 96 sedan deville and is in the shop for the second time cause a bad oil leak. rear main seal was replaced and oil pan gasket were replaced and the oil is still leaking................took it back, and they have the engine out, and now they are going to replace the rest of the seals................is there any other seals that need to be replaced to make sure that the engine doesnt leak anymore? KHE
Probably the oil filter adapter o-rings or an oil cooler line o-ring - those are easily replacable with the engine in the car... Sounds like the shop is throwing seals at the problem without doing a proper diagnosis... Barry94
Don't forget the crank sensor(s) "O" rings and the oil level sensor as well. 2008 STS V82016 Colorado Z711970 Corvette LT-1 Coupe
Scotty
I know a shop in New Jersey that would only repair leaks after cleaning the area and putting a flourescent dye into the crankcase to carefully localize the leak. The customer drove the for a few hours and the shop looked for the leak with a black light... I am surprised more shops don't use this technique. http://www.garage-pak.com/pat-goss-washing...ere-a-leak.html http://www.wescotools.com/c-115-wateroilex...-detection.aspx I just bought these two items: https://www.wescotools.com/p-1518-8-oz-mult...urpose-dye.aspx https://www.wescotools.com/p-1599-cold-chec...ene-glycol.aspx
