NorthWest Star
Just bought a 97 Seville STS last month. Though we don't get a lot of snow here, I would like to know what experiences y'all have had with your Caddy. This STS is pretty low to the ground, and heavy, but it does have front wheel drive. Give me the Good - Bad - and Ugly.
JasonA
Even with performance Michelin Pilot tires, my '97 Seville goes great in the snow. Put the throttle down, let the excellent traction control system do its job, and plow ahead. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" canadian95sts
Ive never had a better car in the snow. Knock on wood ive never gotten it stuck , and hope i never do. Scotty
Nothing stops it, but it is HARD to stop in the snow... The great traction gives you a false sense of security...
bc6t
'98 STS with Pilot XGT's (all season)... Remarkable traction in the snow - no problems whatsover. Braking, though, is another story - 4000+ pounds doesn't like stopping once your're moving - even slowly... All in all, a very safe and predictable cold weather car. Scotty
By the way, while the car does not stop terrific in snow, which is understandable, the true genious of the Northstar system shines in snow with its traction control and ABS working really hard! parrothead
My 01 DTS goes through the Indiana and Ohio snow belts like a tank. The problem is the vertigo in a blinding blizzard but she's steady as a rock. ~for every vision there is an equal and opposite revision~
SGT.ROCK
When I first drove my STS in the snow it had the old really worn Michelins on it and it still did pretty good . There was a time I was headed home from work driving on St.Rt.35 headed towards Xenia and was going way to fast for the conditions and started to get a little sideways but the Stabilatrak lite up on my dash and got the Caddy lined up straight thankfuly. But one time I stopped in some deep snow for an ambulance on a little incline and the traction control couldnt quite tame the 300HP so I got a little push from a friendly passer-by and got goin again.Just got some new BF GOODRICH TRACTION T/As cant wait for the snow to start flyin. joeb
i put on some cheap tires last year around nov. and my son put it in the ditch 1 week later. we had some freezing rain/1-2 inches of snow and he went to a friends house in the country and as he was pulling onto the 2 lane highway from the driveway he said he turned the wheel and the car went right across the road and down into the ditch. we bought another car this summer and the owner threw in a set of nearly new blizzak tires. woo-hoo. they are just the right size for the caddy. we will see how it performs this winter. CadiKing
'99 STS BEST CAR/TRUCK I HAVE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF GOING NUTS IN THE SNOW. Had an '88 Suburban, 4WD. Caddy would kick its butt! Stabilitrac is Amazing! TRULY AMAZING! You will not be disappointed! Trust me! Go nuts and see! I had a new rental, (read stripped), Deville for a few weeks recently. NO STABILITRAC... Long sory short, PASSED a Ricer who was racing a Dodge 4X4. I was on a third lane on-ramp. Passed them from behind, blowing the horn and waving like a FOOL! At 75 mph I lost the Deville in the rain on the ramp, right hand cloverleaf... Got it Back twice through luck and maybe "skill". Came within 4 feet of totalling it into a guardrail! Almost crapped my pants... First thought as my life flashed b-4 my eyes.... Why am I not in my STS?? I get the StabilTrac to light up all winter long... It is a BLAST! GO NUTS AND REPORT BACK! I tell you Sarge, you are going to like those tires! I had them on my Caddy last winter and they were fantastic in the snow. '09 Cadillac CTS-4 3.6 direct injection, 128 K mi. Marika
On my '92 Seville, I have to use 4 snow tires otherwise, I'm just spinning my wheels. With 4 snow tires, the traction is fantastic. Stopping is fine as well. If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans. Greg P.
On these cars, its really all about the tires. If you have good tires, I think you will find winter performance to be pretty good.
Chris
Last year, I preferred driving the STS over '03 Pathfinder 4x4, even with cheap tires on the Seville. Ploughs through snowdrifts like nothing, keeps straight line. Driving it in Ontario's 'snowbelt' region, that is significant This year I bought a set of Blizzaks I'll put on in December, see how that goes Only problem is the '93 model year has no traction off switch which sucks for rocking it in the snow. Last year that was the only problem - I parked in my usual parking spot, outside temp raised about freezing, then dropped back down. Back out to the car and it was stuck, basically parked on sheer ice. TCS was just cutting power so I couldnt move. Got a friend to give me a tug with his Chev1500. Also, there is nothing to attach tow rope to (I used rear axle) I'm sure you;ll be as happy with you Caddy as we are with ours, and welcome to the board -Chris
