ArtDeco
1992 Eldorado..To change the hub and bearing assembly the manual says to separate the hub from the axle, THEN unbolt the hub. Obviosly if the hub is bolted in place the only thing that can move is the axle. How much room does the axle have to be pushed back before you wreck something? The job doesn't seem to bad, but I was wondering about this. thanks
Ranger
It has been a while since I have done this but it should move at least an inch or so. The main thing as I recall is that it is loose so you can slide the hub off of the axle shaft. If it won't come off, place a ball peen hammer on the end of the shaft and whack the round end with a heavy mallet. That should be enough to break it free. KHE
I haven't replaced the front hub but I've replaced a few axle half shafts. I use a three jaw puller to separate the axle from the hub.
