Electrolit Level

For the first time in 5 years checked the electrolit's level in my DieHard battery. It was about 1/8" above the plates when the battery was fully charged. Is it enough? Do you add water regularly to your batteries?

If the plates are completely submerged, and yours are, the electrolyte level is correct.

If the plates were submerged when the battery was discharged I would be happy, but I really do not know how much the level changes when the battery is low.

I guess I don't understand how / why there would / should be a difference in electolyte levels as a result of different specific gravity readings.

Well... that's what I remember from my University years (many moons passed).

Let me find some info online.

The answer is in there as far as deep discharge batteries are concerned. And so is the reason most OEM automotive batteries have been sealed for many years.

Maybe deep discharge wet-cell battery technology does not translate directly to an automotive battery (where the battery provides starting energy and is recharged almost immediately).

Chemistry is not my strong suite!!!

As long as the plates are submerged, it should be fine. If you overfill a battery, it will boil over and make a real mess...
