KenD
I flipped on the heated seat yesterday since it was a little chilly out in the morning. After the seat warms up, I will get a clicking sound from under my seat and the heat goes away. This only happens on the low setting and not the high setting. I felt directly under the seat and there is a 'black box' which I am assuming is a relay that is clicking it's butt off. Is it just a matter of replacing this unit or is there something else that i should be aware of? Ranger
Just a guess here, but I'd say replace the relay.
TDK
KenD, Sorry, can't help with the heater relay. I would guess that I speak for a number of us... in lamenting the loss of your previous, mesmerizing, avatar. That being said, where in the heck did you get your latest avatar-mini-movie, or did you build it? What is its file size? Again, sorry about the heat, Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.

KenD
Just a guess here, but I'd say replace the relay. I switched the relay from the passenger side to the driver's side and the same thing happens. Only on low and not high. The relay seems to be fine as it's working perfectly on the passenger's side. As for the avatar. I'll bring it back, I gotta find it in one of my folders on my other computer. Geez, I didn't know that it had that much of an effect on everyone. Scotty
If you can, check the resistence in the two heating elements, maybe your drivers side heating element is shorted.
Regis
Ken, I have a copy of your old avatar if you want it. It is mesmerizing. I've noticed that there seems to be a subliminal messege attached to it. Something along the lines of "Drink more milk"..... and I'm not even a milk drinker but boy could I use a glass. Sounds like a short to me too. Perhaps the hi lo on/off switch on the console? Mines a junk magnet. If I look real close I can detect corners of french fries, lint, hair, and other unidentifiable micro objects that have successfully avoided the Q-tip and vacuum. Some of that stuff has to get inside where it doesn't belong. Regis
Well Ken, I just have to share the story of what happened today with you. I just got done telling Scotty over messenger and figured I'd better post it here too. So my wife and I get in the caddy to go shopping for things for the new house today. After about a minute of driving I decide to turn on the seat heaters to Lo. I flick the switch for her seat.... no problem. I flick the switch for my seat..... click click click click....you get the idea. I had to laugh for obvious reasons. But at first I looked at my wife and say "What the hell is that noise?!?" and "Where is it coming from???". She says it's coming from my seat. At this point she sees the obvious look of disgust on my face as I'm spouting off about how i just got done reading about the same freakin problem on caddyinfo. This is where it gets good. Just as I'm reaching the peak of my frustration rant, my wife quietly reaches over and grabs ahold of the console switch and firmly and aggressively works that little bugger back and forth like she's trying to spark a fire. Viola!......sound goes away and heater works fine. I certainly had a new found appreciation for her after that little episode. Let's hear it for girl power. We tend to give the old trucks names. One lister calls his Nigel, and once when he asked about a problem with his truck several others began to have the same problem. We now call it Nigel's disease. Bob B Isn't that the way it always happens Bob? I'm starting to think that if I hadn't read about Ken's seat heater problem mine would've been just fine. I'm just wondering who's next. These things happen in threes I understand. "Burns" rubber " I've never considered myself to be all that conservative, but it seems the more liberal some people get the more conservative I become. Regis
Hey it was no big deal Ken.....actually two big deals. So you tried my wife's technique on the seat heater switch? I thought you might want to share your findings in doing so. I was telling Scotty that I equate that technique with the door slamming technique that's used to "fix" the infamous stuck side windows. KenD
Seems to work kger. I just slammed that switch back and forth about 20 times and the clicking goes away. I'll send your wife $50 for the diagnostics and cure. lol Ken 1994 STS Pearl White 260,000 KM (163,000 miles) <img src="http://img45.photobucket.com/albums/v137/caesar/caddycaesar.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" />

2000 STS MN
I flipped on the heated seat yesterday since it was a little chilly out in the morning. I felt directly under the seat and there is a 'black box' which I am assuming is a relay that is clicking it's butt off. Is it just a matter of replacing this unit or is there something else that i should be aware of? KenD It is 38 degs and I tried my seat heater.....no heat no clicking noise. I tried the passenger seat....no heat on the bottom and a little on the back, seat is empty and still cold. I have been reading the responses and not sure where to start with both seats having problems and no clicking noise. Each fuse tests good. The switch lights work HI and Low settings. I have a service manuel coming, hope it has a process of elimination. Any words of wisdom?
