KHE
Does the A/C compressor make the noise when the A/C is off or just when the A/C is on? If the compressor makes noise when the clutch is engaged, the problem is not likely the pulley bearing. Scotty
Kevin raises a good point, when mine sounded like an egg beater it was the compressor itself making noise although my AC hub bearing self-destructed also. If I were you I would remove the serp belt and rotate the hub and see if it has any play or roughness first. Your real problem could be internal to your compressor, Mike
gabyllac
there not any play seen last i looked at it and im like in chicago and i dont us the a/c. it a loud sound like if one of the pulley were gone and when i do trun on the a/c it kinda gets a lil loud like if more stresss was added, and in the moring when i turn on the engine it f@^$en loud but it when it wormes up it relaxs and not that loud, but at one time in arizona like 2monthz ago the cluth didnt want to engage with some wd40 and time it engage and havent done it again, my guess it the pully but i dont know how to take it of it doesnt look like just bolt like the idler pullie lol it look weird to take of any ideas
Scotty
You will need a puller/installer specifically for removing the hub, see this tool http://www.etoolcart.com/index.asp?PageAct...ROD&ProdID=1277 Here is a photo of the removal tool installed in my new compressor to turn it
epricedright
My compressor makes an obnoxious noise whenever it's engaged. Free wheeling, it's quiet. I was thinking it was the clutch bearing. So Kevin and Mike, are you saying if it's noisy when the AC is on and engaged, then it's in the compressor itself (bearing or ?), and not the clutch bearing? It makes more noise when it's hot. This compressor business has me all confused. What's the difference between the clutch bearing, pulley bearing and hub bearing? canadian95sts
gabyllac, I had the ac pully on my 95 STS seize up completly, instead of replacing the ac compressor, never used it anyway, I just bought at slightly smaller belt for the car and bypassed the ac compressor completly. I got the correct information in the archives on what size belt to use, I believe it was a 73.5 inch belt. Wont fix the ac problem, but no belt on the compressor means no noise. If the noise is only present when the compressor is engaged, I would inject an ounce or two of refrigerant oil (PAG-150 for a '94) and see if that quiets things down. If not, the compressor is probably on its way out. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
