bigjayzway
A friend of mine told me he saw blue smoke come out of the tail pipes today, when I do my WOT! Should I be concerned? I seen some oil on the bottom of the rad support too???? Am I in a world of heart ache now? Big Jay Life is too short to grow up!
Scotty
You may be getting some blow-by. How is your oil consumption? I would keep doing the WOTs to see if you can seat and free the rings up. The guru always said that the valve seals rarely are a problem.
Regis
Jay, you've got to stop fueling up with Smurf gas. Bill K
Not to be redundant but when you do the WOT be sure to leave the trans in 2nd and let the engine slow you down to 30/40 and then do it again. It is the slowdown that lets the oil rings move on the cylinders and may reduce the blue smoke.

jackc
I seen some oil on the bottom of the rad support too???? This could be from a bad o-ring where the oil cooler line goes into the radiator.

Scotty
I don't think they used o-rings on the Northstar oil cooler lines these are compression fit where the fitting applies pressure to flared tube. My 91 had o-rings at the oil cooler lines. But jack is right this could just be a loose connection at the radiator.
JohnnyG
A friend of mine told me he saw blue smoke come out of the tail pipes today, when I do my WOT! Should I be concerned? If this is the 98, it's normal. It means the rings are getting lubed correctly at high rpms. If it's the 4.9, you have too many miles on it to be doing WOTs of any kind. Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.

I'm looking to see where mileage was posted for a 4.9 engine and can't seem to find it so I'll just ask. What constitutes too many miles for WOTs on a 4.9? My understanding is that WOTing is a good method for a 4.6 but not necessarily so for a 4.9 (at any time). Is this correct?
