99 sts (freon) where is the add tap

is it the small hose or the fat hose ? blink.gifblink.gif

The larger of the two lines will be the low pressure tap. The filler hose will only fit on the proper side.

where is the tap I looked everywhere? The only taps I see are the two on top on the thin hose.

Your 134A connection should ONLY fit the correct connection, here is a diagram of my system, the connector is on the accumulator see #11

Thank you for the info but it does not match my engine bay there is no tap off the dryer. If you can find the right diagam it would help me alot!!!

Our AC expert is Kevin (KHE). You should look around that general area for a fitting. I don't have a diagram that will help you. Look for black caps, your charging setup will only fit the low pressure connector. I am very surprised that you don't have a fitting in the general area of the accumulator.

Off the small hose there two black caps one is sall and the other is larger i9s it possable that the larger one is the one but the part I don't understand it that the large one does not have one I traced it with my hand throghout its routing and can not find one?

Yes,It does not have a cap

See if your gauge attachment or charging line fits it, if I am not mistaken, the low pressure line is the only one your charging connector will fit, its possible that the cap is missing.

R134a molecules are very very small. The cap is an integral part of sealing the system. Without it the freon will slowly leak out. That is probably why you need a charge. Get a cap.

The charging hose will only attach to the low side port to prevent someone from attaching a can to the high side which could rupture the can. The high side port is for monitoring system pressures when diagnosing a system with a problem.

Before you charge the system, is it still cooling? If not, the refrigerant may have leaked out and air is in the system. Air will reduce cooling effectiveness and introduce moisture into the system which will corrode from the inside out.

If the system is not cooling, then you will need to have it evacuated prior to charging. If the cooling system is still cooling but not that well, then you can boost the charge. Before you do, buy a cap for the port - the cap is required for an effective seal of the system.

The port closest to the compressor should be the low side port. The charging hose will only fit on the correct tap so you don't accidentally connect the charging hose to the high side and blow the can.

I went to the auto parts I took a can outside witha gauge on it cheked the pressure it was in the green and wen the a/c cluch kicked in the pressure went to the yellow range I think it might be possable that the dapper might be stuck or I dont know what the hell to do

My last reply was in the quote section of your last post... Those low side pressure only gages that come with some refrigerant cans are worthless - I've seen people add refrigerant because the "gage" indicated low charge and the high side pressure was skyrocketing....

Is the car cooling but just not satisfactorily? Your earlier post incicating that the compressor was engaging would lead me to think so.

Hey 99,

There is a door in the airbox for the heater/ac which regulates

the temperature from side tio side. To be safe you probably

need to diagnose the problem before adding freon.

Check the door that regulates the air from warm to hot, as it

may not be the ac, but the regulation of air.

just my .02

It is cooling on the passenger side. It is at about 58*. The driver side is at 77*

You are low on refrigerant - classic textbook case with dual zone systems. You are safe to add one 12oz can to the system. Use plain R-134a - do not use anything with o-ring conditioner or sealer.

Glad to help out. Keep an eye on it - if it leaks down again, you'll need to look for a leak in the system.
