Cruise Control cancelling itself

About a month ago, I was on the 401 with cruise set for 75mph. Twice on the 1 hour drive cruise cancelled itself. I didnt think much of it.

This past weekend I made a 4 hour trip on the same road. No problems getting there. On the way home, cruise cancelled itself about 7 times.

I noticed that most of the time, it cancelled itself when i was signalling right lane change. I began using lower section of the signal arm, so as not to touch any cruise stuff by accident. It still happened.

The last 2 hours of the drive i didnt make any right signals (traffic had thinned out), and cruise stayed on the whole way.

When it 'cancelled' itself, pushing the switch to 'resume' worked and the car got back up to the set speed. Before realizing the right-signal correlation, I made sure the floormat wasnt resting on the brake pedal or any of its connections.

Is there any known problem with the signal arm related to cruise? I'm not sure but it is possible that every time it cancelled itself was after I signalled right.

Thanks!

Chris, it sounds to me like you have a short or a loose connection at that turn signal stalk. My first inclanation would be to blame the stalk, and just replace it. I think they're relatively inexpensive because most all GM cars used the same one (thank you, GM).

As an aside, have you worn all the white lettering off yours yet? I noticed that with my '84 Cutlass, and on my '97 Seville, the white lettering is relatively fragile, and will almost rub off if you rub it hard with your finger. Most of my white lettering is gone already, and the car is only 7 years old. I've only noticed this on GM turn signal stalks. I wonder if a replacement stalk would wear better.
