FlamingGoatBalls
My buddy has a 94 Z28 and today the car started shifting horribly or not at all and it seems to have spit up trans fluid out of the trans dipstick that was burning off on the heads causing a lot of smoke to come from under hood. The car doesnt seem to want to shift into drive and when it does it takes a while. Any thoughts?
sprucegoose
Yes, my first thought is... "that trans is toast!!" I have never heard of a trans that was baking that hot that it was spewing out the dipstick. Unless it is severly overfilled, or the vent tube is plugged maybe. I would say from the way you are describing the shifting (or lack of it) that it is history. How many miles on the car, and what is the tans fluid maint history on it? GM's don't do well if you neglect the service interval. I have lost my share of them from prev. owners not doing the service, or heavy towing. I'm driving one right now in fact. No overdrive in this 96 pontiac GP, but I have been limping it along on 3rd for over 10k miles while I decide what to do with it! '09 Cadillac CTS-4 3.6 direct injection, 128 K mi. Ranger
I was thinking the same thing, that it has outlived it's usefulness.

FlamingGoatBalls
well it has 140k on it and since he hasnt changed the oil in a year id say the trans fluid is original.
